Winemaker’s Notes
In 2008, a topsy-turvy weather year if ever there was one, the very existence of our LSSB was in doubt. Spring frosts, inclement weather in May during bloom, and a heat wave during grape set in June seriously stressed our Home Ranch vines. After a fairly mellow July and August, September once again seesawed between periods of warm and cool weather. Fortunately, Mother Nature agrees there must be Gainey Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc, and it must be good. Our 2008 edition, from a very small crop, is very good indeed. Its wonderfully fresh, vivid aromas of melon, mineral, white grapefruit, lime, lemon zest, guava and vanilla preface a stylishly sleek, yet extremely concentrated palate of creamy honeydew melon, lemon-lime and guava flavors that are dramatically rich and focused without being at all heavy. Superbly structured, with a long, mouthwatering finish accented by lovely citrus and mineral tones, this stunning Santa Ynez Sauvignon Blanc is like a great White Bordeaux with California panache. Count on it over the next 2-3 years to enhance your favorite fish, fowl and vegetarian dishes.
